This section describes
some of the more significant legislation
dealing with the distribution and sale of
beverage alcohol in Ontario.
The federal "Importation of Intoxicating
Liquors Act ( Canada )" provides that, with
a few exceptions, only the LCBO has authority
to import beverage alcohol into Ontario (from
other provinces as well as other countries).
The LCBO's powers and authorities are set
out in the provincial "Liquor Control Act"
R.S.O., 1990 C.L.18. The "Liquor Licence
Act" R.S.O.,
1990 C.L.19 sets out a variety of requirements
for the marketing, possession and sale of
beverage alcohol in Ontario, and the licensing
of these activities.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario
(AGCO) is responsible for issuing and enforcing
licences under the "Liquor Licence Act".
We have also established a number of internal
policies and procedures to ensure
- That we comply with applicable legislation
such as the "Food and Drugs Act," the
"Customs Act" and the "Excise Act."
- That we treat all of our suppliers fairly,
in keeping with Canada's international
trade obligations.
